Characteristic for the art scene in Denmark has been relatively few galleries, due to a one hundred year old tradition of artist led exhibitions, the socalled “Sammenslutninger” (Associations, groups, collective exhibitions). A tendency which actually is changing, as several new galleries, especially for young artists, open these years.

Germany:

About the general structure of the art scene:

The federal structural principle in Germany is evident in the cultural sphere and in the art scene. The Federation (Bund) has limited competence in this area, in cultural affairs the states (Länder) are autonomous (“cultural sovereignity of the Länder”). Also public expenses for art and culture in general are mainly covered by the states or cities and local authorities. That is the reason why there in not really an art centre in Germany.
Art works are mainly sold through galleries.
Museums exhibit contemporary visual art, too.
There are artist led exhibitions and the number of those is steadily growing.

Northern Ireland:

A few words about the general structure of the art scene:

Art in Northern Ireland is generally seen through two gallery processes. Public Galleries and Commercial galleries. Public Galleries are funded by ‘public funds’.ie. through the Arts Council or other public funding body.
Commercial galleries sell artwork to the general public and that is their sole function.

Art works are mainly sold through galleries but no detailed information on this does exist.

Museums show contemporary visual art - but it is limited.
No museums solely dedicated to art do exist.

There are artist led exhibitions and the number of those is steadily growing.
